The Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg is one of the most renowned international film schools. The project-orientated curriculum triggers learning during all of the different stages of film or media production; this makes studying a unique experience. The Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at the Filmakademie coordinates the Animation and Interactive Media classes, provides digital post-production to all Filmakademie students and is active in Research & Development projects. Annually the Institute organizes the FMX Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Transmedia - Europe's largest conference of its kind. A Filmakademie Diploma (Dipl.) is accepted and recognized internationally by companies as well as other universities.

Animation

Technical Directing offers a two-year training program for computer science graduates, combining the students' previous technical knowledge with artistic work as part of a film team. By working on animation, VFX, postproduction and research projects, real-time applications or game prototypes they learn how to solve production problems. In addition students write programs and scripts, design setups and rigs, create shaders, tools and plug-ins, automate animation, define workflows and production pipelines. The curriculum is also closely linked to the Institute's various research and development projects. Animation & Effects Producing

This course offers hands-on training and lectures by international guest teachers from the industry in a strictly project-based program. Students work as a team member, taking the role of an animation or effects producer for films and other projects by the Institute's animation, effects, and technical director students. You will be in charge of budget, schedule, resources and workflow. You will learn about the various aspects of animation, effects work, post-production issues, project management, team building, networking and problem solving. AEP is a two-year course (top up), that you can apply for with an intermediate diploma or a bachelor's degree in the field of audio-visual media, film and fine art studies, or an equivalent working experience.

Interactive Media

Content Director and Games/Cross-Media Producer

Transmedia is about finding ideas and developing these ideas into a content universe that translates into a range of formats including films, TV series, print products, games, web 2.0 platforms, mobile apps, and media installations. Interactive Media studies include lectures, seminars, workshops and field trips. The project work entails creating content, building 360  media architecture around the content, inventing formats for digital media platforms and designing interfaces. The students form multidisciplinary teams with students from other departments of the Filmakademie as well as from other universities. They are taught and mentored by internationally renowned experts from film, art, games, web and mobile. Their diploma enables them to become Conceptors/Content Directors or Games/Cross-Media Producers, working for film and TV productions, game publishers, advertising agencies or starting up their own transmedia studios.

Das Institut für Animation, Visual Effects und digitale Postproduktion der Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg ist zuständig für die Ausbildung in den Studienschwerpunkten Animation und Interaktive Medien innerhalb des Studiengangs Film & Medien. Darüber hinaus ist das Institut zuständig für die digitale Postproduktion (Online-Editing, Grading, Mastering) aller studentischen Projekte der Filmakademie, ist aktiv im Bereich Forschung & Entwicklung und veranstaltet jährlich die FMX Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Transmedia.
